Chrysler is recalling almost 600,000 vehicles due to safety issues. Chrysler is recalling Jeep Wranglers due to brake safety issues. The Chrysler recall includes Chrysler Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans due to electrical problems that could potentially cause safety issues; however, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, no crashes or serious injuries have been reported for any of the models. This is the latest in a round of vehicle recalls for consumers for which safety has been compromised.
Chrysler Jeep Wrangler Recall
The Chrysler recall involves about 288, 968 Jeep Wranglers manufactured from May 15, 2006 through August 9, 2010 due to possible safety issues with improper contact between brake tubes and fender liners.
The Chrysler recall specifies that the potential safety issue is contact between the right and left front inner fender liners and the right front and left rear brake tubes. This contact can cause wear of the tubes that can lead to brake fluid leaks. If brake fluid should leak from the vehicle, a partial loss of brake service can occur which can increase the risk vehicle crash or accident.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) states that Chrysler will notify owners of recall details and automobile dealers will repair defective vehicles free of charge.
Chrysler and Dodge Minivan Recall
A Chrysler recall for minivans due to safety issues involve about 284, 831 Chrysler Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans manufactured from February through September 2007 due to safety issues with electrical wiring harnesses.
The NHTSA states that the Chrysler Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans may have been built with improperly routed wire harnesses. The lower sliding door hinge bracket could make contact and wear through the wire insulation. In this case, a short circuit could occur inside the sliding door and possibly causing a fire. Stated in Christopher Jensen’s New York Times article, “Chrysler Recalls 570,000 Jeeps and Minivans,” dated June 7, 2010, “Chrysler said it has 57 reports of vehicles having “thermal damage” but knows of no accidents or injuries.”
The NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation states that Chrysler will notify owners and dealers will repair defective vehicles free of charge. Owners of affected models of Jeep Wranglers, Chrysler Town and Country minivans and Dodge Grand Caravan’s can seek more information by contacting:
